Digital Cover for The Revenger

Debra Anastasia’s newest masterpiece goes live on 2/22/16. Here’s a sneak peek at the cover and a little snippet to whet your appetite. Make sure you click one of the pre-order links below!

Summary:

The real hero of this story is dead. You should have met him. He was a beautiful man. The love of my life. I didn’t deserve him.

Now what’s left are the jagged edges of the person I am without him, and what I have to do to get by. This isn’t even a story about love. Not really. It’s a twisted tale of revenge and hate—a happily never after.

The only man in my life now is the one I have to kill.

I’m Savvy Raine.

I used to be a wife.

I used to be a mother.

Now I am the Revenger.

Excerpt:

“What the hell are you?” He searched frantically for the door latch, his panic making him oblivious to the open top of the Jeep above him.

He didn’t deserve an answer, and he wouldn’t get one. Only in her head would she respond. She pulled him from the backseat and held him aloft, thinking, I’m a mom without a reason. I’m a person without a life. I’m dead with no escape.

Synopsis-round

She’s stuck in a rut, stuck in life and stuck in an elevator with Hollywood’s hottest actor. And of course she’s just come from the gym.

Claire Parelli just can’t seem to catch a break, well, except for heartbreak, that is. After a lifetime of following the rules, she winds up heartbroken, unfulfilled, and hiding from life. But she can’t hide for long.

After getting stuck aboard a broken elevator with Hollywood It-Boy, Daniel Chase, they begin a secret romance that pries Claire out of her element, out of her shell, and out of her sweatpants. But when their romance accidentally goes public, Claire’s life implodes, leaving her to choose to hunker down in the safety of her sweatpants, or risk her fragile heart on a chance at life, love, and the pursuit of better clothing.

He nods. “Fair enough. So . . . when might I see you again?”

See me again? With a cautiously optimistic smile, I say, “You’re the one flying across the country. You tell me.”

“Well, I leave for L.A. after some meetings tomorrow, and my schedule is insane this week, but I believe I have a couple of days off at some point coming up in the next couple of weeks. I forget the exact dates. Anyway, maybe we’ll see each other then?”

“But you’ll be in L.A.”

“It’s not that far by plane.”

I shake my head. “I can’t call out of work.” I won’t blow off work to take a trip. Not for a guy. I’m smarter than that.

He nods. “Maybe I’ll fly back, then.”

My heart launches into my throat. “You’d fly back to see me? You must have a million girls at your disposal on the West Coast.” I’m teasing—sort of.

“True . . . but I’m running out.”

I laugh, enjoying how quickly he can make me laugh. “Oh, so I guess it’s time to move on to the East Coast women?”

He peers down at me through his long lashes, his full lips tugged up on one side. “Or woman.”

My heart flips and flops in my throat, but I won’t let myself buy it. “ ‘Woman,’ huh?”

He rolls his eyes. “Claire, really, how many women’s bedrooms do you think I just hang around in?”

I raise a “do you really want an answer?” eyebrow.

He shakes his head and chuckles. “For your information, if I was merely here for one thing, I’d have had you undressed long ago.”

I raise my eyebrows, smiling. “You think so, huh?”

“Yes, I do. I’m just . . . too polite.”

“Too polite?” I nearly bust out laughing.

“Or maybe I’m just an idiot.”

We both burst into laughter, releasing the tension in the room, and that’s when our eyes lock, speaking the same language, craving the same thing. The atmosphere shifts once again, this time instantly growing tight and thick with heat.

Review

I love this story. The funny—oh my God, the funny. Q.T. Ruby has a way of creating scenes that can make your heart ache, but then she throws in the wittiest one-liners and comebacks, and you find yourself cracking up. And then cracking up all over again an hour later when you remember the line again. With A Matter of Trust, the author has crafted characters with realistic traits and flaws and thrown them together in situations where they are tested. Sometimes they succeed. But sometimes they fail. Because real people fail sometimes. But real people also redeem themselves.

Claire Parelli is a teacher in a private school in New York City. When she meets movie star Daniel Chase in an elevator, she’s horrified at her sweaty state, having just come from the gym. But Dan sees something in Claire that she can’t see. He sees the beautiful, worthwhile woman she’s kept under wraps in her apartment, hidden in her baggy sweats and a loner existence.

Dan pursues a relationship with Claire, but due to her insecurities, she has a hard time trusting his feelings; she’s just waiting for the end, waiting for him to break up with her, waiting for him to realize she’s not worth it. When push comes to shove, it’s Claire who bails, leaving Dan floundering. Although she doesn’t even realize he’s floundering (and neither does the reader) because she’s never quite believed his feelings were genuine.

The growth is the most important part of the story, for it’s not called A Matter of Trust for nothing. Claire has to learn first to trust herself and believe in herself, and then she can trust Dan’s feelings are real. Through her growth, the reader learns a lot about Claire’s background—her history with her mother and former fiancé and how that history shaped her.

Don’t get me started on Claire’s mother. I have several nicknames for her and none is kind. I’m looking forward to learning more about the relationship with her mom and seeing where Claire and Dan go in a sequel. I firmly believe this book ended where it did to leave the reader with just enough questions about a sequel. So I will wait patiently for the announcement.🙂

Five very satisfied stars to A Matter of Trust by Q.T. Ruby.

The doors unlock as I approach the car, and I scramble into the passenger seat and lock my door. Moments later, Dan slips into the car as the paparazzi swarm, flashing their cameras through the windows. I duck my head to my knees and cover my face. Finally, we pull away from the curb—and away from the paparazzi.

“Are you all right?” Dan asks, his focus shifting from me to the road.

“Yeah, I’m okay.” My voice is shaky, and I breathe deeply. “Does that really happen on a regular basis?”

He shakes his head. “It’s ridiculous sometimes. Believe it or not, that wasn’t all that bad.”

I blink, trying to erase the spots. “Are those going to be bad for business?”

“What?” He glances at me.

“You know—Daniel Chase is out with a female!” I wave my hands a little.

He snickers and shrugs playfully. “I’ll just say I was out with my granny.”

I swat his shoulder with my purse. “Very nice. I’ll report that the babysitting went well.”

Dan laughs. He glances in the rearview mirror then the side mirrors. “Looks like we’re clear. Where do you want to go?”

I shake my head. “Well, I’m not up for that again.”

He nods. We drive aimlessly without speaking for a few minutes.

Then . . .

“Hear me out, all right?” He glances at me nervously.

“All right.”

“There aren’t many private places to go. The same thing might happen at any other pub we go to, so that leaves us with two places—my hotel or your flat.”

PRESENTS. . .

A Cover Reveal

for

Twelve

by T.M. Franklin

Twelve-3D-Paperback

Release Date:

October 9, 2014

 summary2

Twelve-3D-BookstackAva Michaels is gifted, powerful, and—whether she likes it or not—part of a plot to take over the world.

It’s only been a few months since Ava Michaels discovered she has ties to an ancient people living in the shadows of the human world, despite their superior gifts and abilities. A select few don’t like hiding, however, and think it’s time to take control.

Now Ava’s caught up in a conspiracy in the works before she was even born. In fact, her birth was an integral part of the plan. She’s one of the Twelve, the most powerful Race ever created, and they were created for a purpose.

Ava, however, doesn’t like being told what to do.

All she wants is to start a new life with Caleb Foster, the Protector who once put his own life at risk to save hers. Before they can even think about that, however, they need to figure out exactly what the Twelve and their power-hungry leader are up to—and find a way to stop them.

Along the way, they’ll have to forge alliances with former enemies, seek out powerful new friends, and infiltrate the heavily fortified enemy stronghold in an attempt to get some answers. In the end, Ava must decide if her destiny lies in her DNA or in her conscience. If she can turn her back on what she was born to do and do what is right. If she will save the ones she loves or save the world.

Or if her ties to the Twelve mean she has no choice at all.

excerpt

She sat up suddenly and grabbed Caleb’s hand. “Do you feel that?”

“What?” He instinctively checked the mirrors, but there was nobody behind them.

“Someone . . .” Ava’s eyes glazed over. “Someone’s coming. Fast.”

Caleb stepped on the gas, searching the horizon. “Who? Anyone familiar?”

“What’s happening?” Sophie asked.

Ava shook her head. “I can’t tell. Not yet anyway. You think it’s Protectors?”

Caleb’s jaw tightened. “Or Rogues.”

“You think they know?” Ava glanced at Sophie.

“We don’t know. Not for sure.”

“Would somebody please tell me what’s going on?” Sophie shouted from the backseat.

The temperature in the car dipped as frost formed along the edges of the windows.

“You’ve got to calm her down,” Caleb muttered, taking a turn too fast and swerving to correct. “Now.”

Ava didn’t argue, instead scrambling over the seat to take the girl’s hand. “Sophie, listen to me. You need to stay calm, okay? Try to breathe with me.”

“But—”

“I’ll explain everything, but first you need to calm down. You see what’s happening?”

Through the mirror, Caleb saw her glance up at the roof of the car as snowflakes began to drift through the interior.

“I . . . I don’t understand,” Sophie murmured. “What’s—why is it snowing?”

“It’s you,” Ava said quietly. “You’re upset, and your gift is reacting.”

“I don’t understand what’s happening to me.” Sophie choked on a sob, and Caleb felt the telltale prickle of another Race signature along the edges of his consciousness.

“I feel them now,” he said, sitting taller in the seat and leaning forward as if willing the car to go faster.

Ava didn’t respond but remained focused on Sophie.

Caleb felt Ava’s gift and knew she was letting it flow into the girl a little, helping calm her.

“We’ll help you.” Ava sounded so calm and soothing. “We’ll help you learn to control it, but for right now, you need to calm down. Breathe with me, okay?”

Sophie nodded and swallowed tears as she tried to match Ava’s inhale and exhale. The snow stopped.

“That’s good.” Ava nodded encouragingly. “Keep breathing. I need you to stay calm. Someone’s coming, and I’m guessing they’re after you.”

Sophie’s breath caught, and the ice gathering on the dashboard cracked.

“It’s okay,” Ava hurried to say. “Keep breathing. Stay calm. We’re going to keep you safe.”

Sophie gripped Ava’s hand, but she kept breathing slowly in and out. “How?”

Ava smiled. “You asked what I could do? Well, I’m about to show you.”

Review: Return to Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia

Return to Poughkeepsie by Debra AnastasiaBeckett Taylor is a murderer. His calling, his craft are destruction and intimidation—whether he wants it that way now or not. He left Poughkeepsie to keep his brothers safe, to keep Eve safe. Set up with happy lives to live, they’re better off without him, right?

But all his willpower crumbles when he hears his brother Blake’s frantic voice on the phone. An unknown enemy has moved in on his old territory, and Livia’s been taken. In an instant, Beckett knows it will take an attack only he and Eve can execute to bring her back. All his self-imposed embargoes are torn to shreds, perhaps along with the new man he’s struggled to become.

“Brother, call Eve. I’ll be there soon.”

Release date December 30, 2013

Review:

Wow. Seriously. Wow. I don’t even know where to start. I can’t give away jack with this review, which ties my hands quite a bit *snicker, where’s Beckett* but let me see what I can do…

All the stars. Really. Fast paced and riveting, emotional and heart-wrenching, this story started with a bang and really never slowed down. There were moments–just brief flashes–where you could take a deep breath, but then once again, the action picked up again and you were once again thrust into the story. Just like Poughkeepsie before it, I think Return to Poughkeepsie would make a phenomenal movie.

Not only are all the beloved characters from Poughkeepsie here, but we meet new characters and honestly fall in love with a few of them. How much did I love Ghandi? I really would like a Ryan of my very own. And, dude… Trish? I couldn’t have laughed harder at her antics. At one point I cackled and then looked around to see who heard me.

Which just makes my point about this story and this series. It’s not just a story about a couple, or a family, or some friends. It’s happy, it’s sad, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry. You’ll be absolutely infuriated to the point of swearing and consumed with joy that you won’t be sure you can contain it. Or maybe that’s just me. Nah, it’ll be you, too. I’m sure of it.

Beckett owns me. And Eve… she’s even more amazing here than she was in Poughkeepsie. If ever there was a couple meant to be together, it’s them. There’s plenty of Blake and Livia, Cole and Kyle, but to me, the focus was Beckett and Eve. And I’m so glad.

Since my hands are still tied and I can’t say anymore, go and buy it the moment you can. Inhale it the way I did: enjoy the humor, seethe when life’s unfair, cry when your heart heals. Trust me.

*ARC received for honest review.

It’s Release Day: Where We Fell by Amber L. Johnson

Amber L. Johnson’s WHERE WE FELL is finally available.

You can now get your e-book copy of Amber L. Johnson’s debut New Adult novella, WHERE WE FELL.

Early praise for WHERE WE FELL:

a well written, emotionally uplifting, and honest story                                        – Stephanie on Goodreads

“Amber L. Johnson is one of the brightest new authors on the horizon.”              – Author Sydney Logan

“It may be short story, but definitely a powerful one.”                                    – Lucia @ Reading is My Breathing

(Synopsis)

Oliver Bishop is having a seriously bad day. With one diagnosis, his life suddenly has an expiration date. Confused about the numbness he has to the idea of it, he unwittingly puts himself directly in the sights of a girl that just may give him a reason to fight – and to live.

(Excerpt)

“Wouldn’t it freak you out if I took my hair off right this second and was like, ‘Oh my god, Oliver, I had cancer too!”

“Don’t lie.  That’s a shitty thing to lie about.”

“Is it?”

I shrug, trying to control my emotions.  “It would explain why you changed your hair, I guess.”

She straightens her spine.  “I guess it would.  Or maybe it makes sense that my mom had cancer.  And lost her hair.  So I dyed my hair and cut about sixteen inches off to donate to her for a wig.  That might make sense, too.”

Hannah Hartwell is weird.  And she’s awkward.  But at this exact moment she is not a liar.

“I might not know what you’re going through first hand, okay? But I know what it’s like to see it from the sidelines.  My mom didn’t even tell me that she was going in for testing.  Didn’t tell me she got a diagnosis.  She just called me on a Wednesday and said she was going in for surgery on Friday, and could I please make sure to pay my phone bill on time this month.  It was like, how did she just go to these appointments without telling anyone?  So blase.  Like you.  It baffles me.”

I’m silent as she talks because I have nothing to say.

“It’s kinda ironic that the woman who leaves an oncologist because he’s ‘married to his job’ ends up getting the one thing he could potentially help her with.”

The room is so quiet that I can hear the music from outside filtering into the house between the window panes and cracks under the doors.  Our food is going to go cold, which bothers me a little, even though I’m no longer hungry.  She did spend a long time cooking it, after all.

Instead of saying anything about her confession, I pick up the ear of corn and start eating.

“This is good,” I say.  And I mean it.

She forces a tight smile and picks at her own plate.

“It’s not ‘cure my cancer’ good.  But it’s good.”

This time, it’s a spoon that she throws at my head.

You can get WHERE WE FELL on Amazon.
